Possible Return of TALES FROM THE CRYPT

The beloved HBO show Tales From The Crypt is looking to make a return to television. It will follow the same stories from the EC comics in the 50’s but will carry a different format then the previous offering. Read more after the break for the new installment of Tales From The Crypt.

It’s hard to believe that 15 years ago was the last episode of the Crypt. Going to syndication after the series ended on HBO was never the same as they were not allowed to show the blood and gore that made it a hit. Spanning from 1989-1996 Crypt gave us many famous actors in another light with the likes of people such as Micheal J Fox participating in the carnage. The new installment will be developed by original producer Gil Adler and will no longer follow the original format as before.

The new format will still follow the comics but have more of an ongoing character development included. That makes me wonder how the introduction of the Crypt Keeper will be handled. That format didn’t work too well for the Friday The 13th the series. Another change in store is that it may not be on HBO but picked up by its sister station Cinemax. Although there are rumors of cable channels like IFC picking it up as well. I hope that it stays on premium cable so the gore and profanity wont be put on hold and they can really gear up the series. No word yet on filming or cast news but I’m sure once they confirm the network it will take off from there.

I was a huge fan of Tales from the Crypt and during a time when mainstream horror was taking a more comedic route it was breath of fresh air for true genre fans. Crypt set its self apart from shows of its kind like Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, and Tales from the Darkside by providing uncensored unfiltered horror instead of watering down the content for a mainstream appeal. Bring on the Crypt keeper!
