Frank Darabont Reveals Secrets About THE WALKING DEAD Finale and Season 2

Adorning the cover of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, that hit shelves on Friday, is a hungry crowd of zombies, our hero Rick, and the phrase THE BEST NEW SHOW ON TV.  What a beautiful sight to see for a horror fan.  Not only is The Walking Dead a massive hit with viewers, but mainstream critics as well seem to have caught on to the character-driven AMC show.  In the issue, series creator Frank Darabont discusses the last two episodes of season one of the hit zombie series as well as what we can expect in season two.

If you are a fan of the show, I suggest picking up a copy of the current issue of Entertainment Weekly. Though it is a slightly brief article, it does include some interesting stories from actor Andrew Lincoln, consultant and SFX guru Greg Nicotero, and creator Frank Darabont.  Below are some highlights from the article. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!

–  “The final two episodes of the season will see the survivors trek to the Center for Disease Control… Is there any structure or authority or government working on our behalf. That’s a pretty legitimate question even without a zombie apocalypse,” Darabont explains.

– The Walking Dead was first rejected by NBC and other networks because of its doom and gloom.

–  Darabont has begun thinking about season 2 but will not begin actively working on it till early 2011.

–  Episode 6 will not end with a cliffhanger nor will it resolve what happened to Merle (Michael Rooker).

–  The relationship with Rick, Lori, and Shane will be fully explored next season.

–  Darabont is particularly fond of fan-favorite Michonne ( a deadly woman with a samurai sword) and Tyreese

– “I can’t wait to get to the Governor!” exclaims Darabont.  “I think the Governor is going to be an all-time memorable character for TV.”

–  In response to if Rick and Co. will hold-up at the massive prison complex that is featured in the comics, Darabont says, “It would certainly be my intention to go there, although it seems like a place I’ve been before.” (Darabont directed The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile)

–  Before continuing with season 2, Frank wants to plan out a master plan for the show which will include knowing ahead of time how it will all end.  He will be discussing with comic creator Robert Kirkman what the ending will be.
