We want to hear from you! Give us your input on the site.
You might have noticed that we haven’t been posting many press releases or “news” posts in the past couple of weeks. Our viewership has taken a hit because of it but really not as much as I had thought. I started Destroy the Brain back in 2007 as a podcast. A solo podcast. It was a lot of fun and I met and corresponded with many fans of the podcast and of horror in general. Back in 2010, I launched the site as a full fledged website that started posting news posts, DVD & Blu-Ray Releases and pretty much the normal content you could grab on other sites.
I’ll admit, we are short staffed and it is mainly myself running the site. I have some writers that are helping out now with reviews and unique content and possibly some writers that are ready to start writing for the site. Over this “down time” in the past couple of weeks, I rethought about what I want DTB to be. Many of you probably go to other websites to get news and other content that have been doing this longer than I have. Also, those sites with a longer tenure have more contacts. As a horror fan, or a cinephile in general, I get my news through press releases sent to me or other sites. There are a few I frequent for that stuff. The press release game is a unique one. Simply put, if we don’t post what they send us, we get forgotten. If we do post, we may get more stuff you don’t really care about or we get more contacts and possibly exclusives to other things. DTB is growing, there is no doubt about that. Since this is a site that I wanted to create not only for myself but for fans of multiple genres, particularly horror, I want to know what you, the reader, think. Before we start 2014, I want to hear from you. We have wondered into genres outside of horror. Our description for our site is “Covering horror, cult and all cinema fantastique.” Case in point, should I review a film like American Hustle on DTB? David O’ Russell is becoming a director with a cult following and the film is pretty fantastic but does a film like that interest you, the reader? There is no horror or fantasy in the film other than the character’s fantasies.
I want 2014 to be a pretty amazing year for Destroy the Brain. Last week, we launched our Instagram “channel” and it is doing pretty well – mainly due to a giveaway we are doing. Our midnight genre program here in St. Louis, Late Nite Grindhouse, is performing with steady attendance. There are other things I have in the pipeline for 2014 but I cannot reveal them right now. However, everything that is planned will be a “off-shoot” of the site. The site is the main hub and I want to make sure that we are pushing this thing to its full capacity.
I have embedded a survey below. If you could take a few minutes out of your day and fill out the survey, it would be greatly appreciated. It is totally anonymous as well so be as honest as you like. Feel free to put anything and everything you would like to see from the site in the free form box.
