Star Costumes Announces Scholarship for Horror Industry

Over the past 30 years Star Costumes have provided the industry with everything from costumes, to make ups to masks. Well now they are taking it a step forward and one lucky student will be reaping the benefits. They are creating a new scholarship worth $1,000.00 to a student studying to work in the horror movie industry.

We’re grateful to the creative geniuses who have provided years of fun-filled terror” explains Mike Cairl, Star Costumes founder and president. “By providing this scholarship, we want to do our part to provide help to the brightest and most creative students. This money can be used to help alleviate some expenses and help to launch their career in horror cinema. Horror films are an important part of the American film tradition, and there are no other scholarships available which are designed specifically for students entering the horror industry.

Students that are looking to work in the fields of makeup artists, special effects, costume design set and lighting design, film sound, CGI/VFX and directors are available for this scholarship. Even screen writers and movie critics are available for this scholarship.

To apply, students must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years or older with a 3.0 GPA who is currently studying full-time at an undergraduate or graduate post-secondary institution. Applicants must fill out a short form and include an essay, which will be judged on its creativity and passion for horror cinema,” says Cairl.

The deadline to submit scholarship applications is October 31st, 2010. The winner will be notified on November 5th, 2010.  Application for the scholarship can be found here: http://www.starcostumes.com/horror-scholarship/

This is great and I hope that many kids aspiring for horror greatness plan to take advantage of this. If I was in high school and something like this was available I would have jumped on the opportunity, only problem is my GPA was not that good but let’s keep that between us!

Travis has been a part of the St. Louis Pop Culture scene since his days as a heavy metal singer. Always a fan of horror, comics, and games Travis started his own personal blog about the St. Louis "nerd" life back in 2000. He soon started his own radio program "The Gutter" in 2006 which featured various types of metal music along with news on the horror industry. He is still active in the St. Louis music and pop culture scene and is known by many.
