New Clive Barker Documentary – Raising Hell: The Visions of Clive Barker

I love documentaries.  The majority of the time, I find documentaries more intriguing than what any fictional movie can bring to the table.  Back in 2005, I ventured to Toronto, Ontario Canada for Rue Morgue’s Festival of Fear.  It was my first convention, my first time travelling alone, and my first time leaving the United States.  The Guest of Honor that year was Clive Barker.  While the man is legend among the horror community, he is legend as a human being.  He attended the convention, painted a piece during the convention where everyone could see (pictured to the right), did a Q&A and even showed up for the Saturday night party where he was a judge for a costume contest.  He is one of the few, if not only, Guests of Honor that actually seemed like he wanted to be there.  Not only did he involve himself in the general attendance, but he signed for free the entire weekend.

He has always facinated me in the different mediums he involves himself in.  Now, Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky (directors of the PARADISE LOST docs and BLAIR WITCH 2) are making a documentary on Barker.

You can check out a promotional trailer on Berlinger & Sinofsky’s website.  It runs a bit on the long side, but it is fascinating as Barker talks about his father, painting and his processes.

The Documentary is scheduled to be released in Spring 2011.

From CliveBarker.info:

…Inspired by an interview with Clive which he filmed in April 2009 for the Dream The Impossible commercial project, Joe Berlinger embarked on the creation of this documentary and has been accumulating material in recent months. With plans to capture further material at a convention in March 2010, Berlinger’s project has continued to progress and a trailer is now being presented on his site.

In addition to his role on the site, he also programs St. Louis' monthly horror & exploitation theatrical midnight program, Late Nite Grindhouse. Coming from a household of a sci-fi father and a horror/supernatural loving mother, Andy's path to loving genre film was clear. He misses VHS and his personal Saturday night 6 tape movie marathons from his youth.
