Help out our favorite DEADGIRL by Kickstarting HARVEST
Kickstarter.com has always been interesting to me. It is basically an internet financier. Remember the scene in Ed Wood where Mr. Wood would have to go to all sorts of people to get financing for his latest “epic”? Now, filmmakers don’t need to go to the meat plant or to the dentist office to get that cold hard cash to try to finance their dream. They can turn to the fans by offering them incentives and getting those fans involved in the process.
Jenny Spain (DEADGIRL-reviewed in Episode 67) tweeted about this project a couple of weeks back, I just hadn’t looked at it until now. As of this posting, the project has 58 hours to go (July 11, 2010 at 7:29 EDT) and needs $610 more for the pilot to be shot. Their next step is to go to studios to see if they will finance the remainder of the series. The filmmaker behind this project is none other than Jim Ojala who has done special effects work with Troma’s Citizen Toxie: Toxic Avenger IV, Poultrygeist as well as Deadgirl, Hellboy 2 and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Most Internet fiends might not know this but he also co-directed this cool Marvel Zombies: The Movie clip that circulated a year or so ago:
Taken from the Kickstarter.com page:
What happens when a Population Control Virus wipes out over half of humanity and the only antidote is a fresh human cerebellum? Who unleashed this horrendous virus? How will people survive? Is anyone immune? What would you do?The story centers on Kelly who has had her whole family harvested in a grisly home invasion by trusted neighbors. Not having anything to live for she doesn’t care if the whole world burns. The problem? She’s the only known person with a natural immunity to the virus. Therefore she is incredibly important and everyone wants her either to help find a cure, not find a cure or exploit a cure.
HARVEST is a pulse pounding and thought provoking series that gives us a glimpse of the not so distant future.
Let’s help out the lovely Jenny Spain and our brother in gore Jim Ojala get this launched!
