Former RUE MORGUE Editor-In-Chief writes Zombie Book!
Back in 2004, I remember picking up my first Rue Morgue Magazine. A year later, I was taking my first international trip, alone, to Toronto for Rue Morgue’s Festival of Fear. After Rodrigo Gudino stepped away from the Editor-In-Chief throne, Jovanka Vuckovic took over and ran the magazine to one of its most successful runs in the magazine’s history. After leaving in 2009, she has given birth to a hellspawn…ok, just a daughter…and is in the process of directing a short film called The Captured Bird. Oh, and she decided with all that free time (sarcasm), that she would go and write a book about a horror fan’s favorite undead friend…..zoommmmmbbbbbiieeeeessss. Beyond the break, you can find out more about the book which includes an introduction by George A. Romero.
Featuring a cover by The Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard, Zombies! An Illustrated History of the Undead basically covers the long history of the creature of the zombie. From voodoo to comic books and movies, zombies are hear to stay and be documented!
Synopsis:
The zombie phenomenon is unique in Western popular culture. From its origins in the voodoo beliefs of Haiti, it has become a key ingredient in today’s cinema, popular literature and comics. With one simple premise that the dead rise again to feast on the living and turn them More…
into zombies, the undead have inspired a huge variety of artists to explore ideas of survival, morality, fear, humor and horror. ZOMBIES! is the first book to take a wide look at the whole phenomenon, from low budget cult movies to long-running comics and best-selling humor novels. With stunning imagery, and an authoritative and entertaining text from one of the worlds most distinguished experts on the genre, plus a foreword by master of horror George A. Romero, this tome will appall and delight the reader in equal measure.
I have always dug Jovanka’s writing when she would write in Rue Morgue so I’ll probably be picking this up very soon. I suggest you do the same!
