‘THE ORPHANAGE’ Director Delivers an Emotional Tale of Survival in New Trailer for ‘THE IMPOSSIBLE’
The 2004 tsunami that destroyed the lives of many in Southeast Asia is known as one of the greatest natural disasters in history. Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand were the hardest hit, destroying towns, homes, and taking the the lives of over 230,000 people. It’s a shocking and extremely sad moment in history that shows how fragile human life really is. Juan Antonio Bayona made a name for himself with horror fans by directing The Orphanage; a film that many consider to be one of the better horror films of the last decade. The Spanish director is now moving towards telling a tale of real-life horror with the film The Impossible. Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor star as parents who attempt to reconnect with one another as they and their children are separated during the tsunami while vacationing in Thailand. It’s a testament to the director that even while just watching the trailer you find it hard not to get swept up in the emotions of the story. Though it may not be a film for everyone, I’ll be certainly keeping an eye out for The Impossible when it takes over theaters on December 21, 2012.
