‘SNOWPIERCER’ International Trailer asks us to come aboard
I was a huge fan of 2006’s The Host directed by Joon-ho Bong as it was a great little monster movie that had a lot of heart & humor behind it. Like many Korean filmmakers, the transition to English-speaking films is imminent. This year alone, we saw Park Chan-wook’s Stoker and Jee-Woon Kim’s The Last Stand that had major studio backing – at least in distribution. Snowpiercer is Bong’s new film which mixes a cast from his region along with John Hurt, Chris Evans & Tilda Swinton. It still doesn’t have an official release here in the States but the trailer below is promoting its release in Korea which will be in late August. The Weinstein Company is handling the Statewide distribution.

Synopsis
The film is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an ice age has killed off nearly all life on the planet. The only survivors are the inhabitants of the ‘Snowpiercer’, a massive train that travels around the planet and is powered by a perpetual-motion engine. Over time a class system evolves on the train, with the elites inhabiting the ‘front’ of the train and poor inhabiting the ‘back’ of the train. Tired of the poor conditions suffered by riders in the ‘back’, a revolution occurs with the riders attempting to seize control of the engine which the elites in the ‘front’ consider ‘sacred’.
