‘PHANTASM V: RAVAGER’ Teaser is Live!

UPDATE 2:25PM – Upgraded the teaser trailer to the one that is posted on YouTube as well as confirming that this is the final entry in the Phantasm series.

Man, they are handling the publicity for the latest entry in the Phantasm series quite well. Earlier in the week, we posted some tidbits and a poster that was timely released to a few sites. Now, Entertainment Weekly exclusively got the trailer for Phantasm V: Ravager. Along with some of my commentary of the trailer and some quotes from EW’s post.

The teaser above shows some great stuff for fans of the series. According to the YouTube description, this is the final entry. Basically, reaffirming that the ‘Cuda, Reggie, Michael Baldwin and our favorite Tall Man is back. It’s also nice to see the Lady in Lavender in here as well. The only thing that I didn’t really care for, and it is a bummer on its placement, was the shot of the huge floating sphere in the air. The effect doesn’t look great and Reggie seems like he is out of “sequence” with what he is reacting to. That said, who knows if the effect shots are in the can either. This project has flown under the radar and, from what I understand, has been filmed periodically for a few years now.

From the EW post:

Phantasm: Ravager was shot in and around southern California over the past two years. “The Phantasm films have been a guerrilla operation for decades now, totally outside of the studio system,” Coscarelli said. “We do them for the fans, and I think Ravager will definitely please them. In the past few years several studios have made offers to remake Phantasm with large budgets, but the fans were very vocal that they wanted the original cast to return and finish this iteration of the story with class.”

Very few plot details have been released – but according to Coscarelli, Phantasm: Ravager includes “an extended sequence on the Tall Man’s home world.” Plus? “There are also some surprises thrown in that I promise will astonish long-time fans.”

There is no release date as of yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t get one soon or if it didn’t pop up at some festivals in the Fall, namely Fantastic Fest.
