A Metallica Song Sets the Mood In the New ‘ZERO DARK THIRTY’ Trailer

The new trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s highly acclaimed film might be the best one yet, and it may have something to do with the cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” playing in the background.  We have seen several trailers, teasers, and commercials for the film that highlight the tense mood that looks to be found in the political thriller.  However, none of the previous trailers have struck an emotional nerve with me like this new one has.  The exceptional cover of the Metallica song is done by Scala and Kolacny Brothers.  Readers may remember that a song by the choral group was also used in the promotion for another end of the year favorite back in 2010: The Social Network.  It should come as no surprise that I’m very excited to check out this film.  Buzz has been gathering for the film since it premiered a few weeks ago.  Zero Dark Thirty will screen in select cities on December 19 – to qualify for Academy Award nominations – but then will open wide on January 11.  Check out the trailer below.

Here is the Scala and Kolacny Brothers song in its entirety.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
