You Will Finally Be Able to Celebrate ‘Mother’s Day’ Next Year

Considering the fact that a work print was screened to festival attendees at 2010’s Fantastic Fest, I have to say that this film has come a long way to me finally writing this next sentence. Darren Lynn Bousman’s remake of Mother’s Day is finally getting an official release!  After the UK and other foreign countries have gotten to see it (and some assholes watching it illegally online in bootleg form here in states), Mother’s Day is getting an official release through Anchor Bay Films on May 13, 2012.  The day, of course, actually being Mother’s Day.  No word has been released if this is a theatrical or DVD release. Bousman has had quite a week between this film and 11-11-11; both good and bad.  The good, of course is that Mother’s Day is finally seeing a proper release.  This is something that any filmmaker loves to see.  The bad is the fact that not only 11-11-11 is now only getting a limited release in select cities this Friday as opposed to a wide release, but an unfinished cut of the film has leaked online as well.  This is three leaked films in a row (Repo! The Genetic Opera, Mother’s Day, and 11-11-11)! I honestly feel bad for the man.  I’ve had the privilege to meet the guy, and he’s a genuinely nice guy.  Aside from that, I really think he is a talented director.  Say what you will about the Saw franchise and what it turned into.  Saw II was a solid sequel that took the story in a new direction and delved into the character of Jigsaw successfully. Repo’s “Bava-esque” lighting and quirky musical numbers may not have been for everyone (I personally loved it), but showed a director taking a chance and trying something different.  I can’t say anything about his two new endeavors since I have yet to see either of them, but I’m excited to see a horror director not revisiting the same material with each ongoing film.  Bousman’s recent ventures have all shown a different take on the horror genre.  I really hope that these upcoming films do well for the director who has fallen on bad luck as of recent.  It would be great to see the two films do well despite the unfortunate piracy.

Since it seems like its been ages since we first saw the trailer for Mother’s Day, I decided to post it below to reinvigorate myself and all of you about the upcoming film.  The film stars Rebecca DeMornay, Jaime King, Deborah Ann Woll and Shawn Ashmore.
