The First Photo for ‘THE GREEN INFERNO’ Is A Lot More Red Than Green

It’s been over forty years since Umberto Lenzi delivered what is considered the first cannibal film with The Man From Deep River.  Most horror fans may only be aware of Ruggero Deodata’s Cannibal Holocaust and the many films that followed, but Lenzi’s 1972 bloody exploitation flick kicked off the genre with lots of gore, nudity, and a full-scale tribal war displayed on screen.  Eli Roth will resurrect the long lost genre with the upcoming The Green Inferno.  Though a release date is still  unknown at this time, I would surely count on a late 2013 or early 2014 release.  Maybe we’ll even see it debut at Fantastic Fest later this year; Roth showed up this past year with Aftershock, which he produced.  For now, check out the first photo from the film below.

A group of student activists from New York City travel to the Amazon to protect a dying tribe, but crash in the jungle and are taken hostage by the very natives they saved.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
