See what Forms THE THING Might Shape Into in new Photos
John Carpenter’s 1988 masterpiece displays the perfect amount of claustrophobic, psychological terror while also incorporating some creepy creatures. The Thing has always made an impression on me and I feel it is mainly due to the body horror element of the story. The creative idea that the alien creature can be different once it reacts to whomever it infects was something that fascinated me and was what drew me to other body horror films such as the work of David Cronenberg. FX Supervisor Rob Bottin pushed the enveloped with his surreal and horrific creations that still hold-up better than most CGI today. Looking at these “supposed” new photos that have surfaced from Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.’s directed prequel (also entitled The Thing), it looks like the film will be expanding on some of the visual’s Bottin first gave us nightmares with. No one from the studio has officially confirmed or denied these photos yet, hence the “supposed” remark in the previous sentence. Take a look at these exciting behind-the-scenes photos after the break.
Bloody-Disgusting stumbled upon a fan-page for the film that revealed these first photos of the “creature” in the film. You can view that Facebook page here. Or, rather yet, just enjoy these great photos that can be seen below. The authenticity of these photos has been questioned by a couple of people. If that is the case, these are damn good fakes. One can argue that these photos once again look to just recreate what we have already seen in Carpenter’s remake of The Thing From Another World. Yet, I appreciate the fact that they seem to allude to a more practical effects route as opposed to the more commonplace CGI seen in most films as of late. Enjoy!
