RARE EXPORTS Inspires Alamo Drafthouse’s Christmas Card

If there are two things that I am thankful for this holiday season, it is the evil Santa Claus film Rare Exports and the fine people at the Alamo Drafthouse theater in Austin, TX.  Though I have still yet to see Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, which is currently making a limited theatrical run, I am in love with the trailer and the short film that inspired the full-length theatrical feature.  Hopefully it will be making its way to DVD very soon.  In honor of the Christmas themed movie, the Alamo Drafthouse has released a Christmas card adorned with a caged Santa Claus surrounded by their well-armed employees. Check out the card beyond the break as well as a complete list of theaters the “holiday” film is coming to.

It’s the eve of Christmas in northern Finland, and an ‘archeological’ dig has just unearthed the real Santa Claus. But this particular Santa isn’t the one you want coming to town. When the local children begin mysteriously disappearing, young Pietari and his father Rauno, a reindeer hunter by trade, capture the mythological being and attempt to sell Santa to the misguided leader of the multinational corporation sponsoring the dig. Santa’s elves, however, will stop at nothing to free their fearless leader from captivity. What ensues is a wildly humorous nightmare – a fantastically bizarre polemic on modern day morality.

RARE EXPORTS: A CHRISTMAS TALE is a re-imagining of the most classic of all childhood fantasies, and is a darkly comic gem soon to be required perennial holiday viewing.

Judging by reviews I have read on the film, I would highly recommend catching this film if it comes to a theater near you. The complete list of upcoming cities the film will be shown in is below.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
