Peel back THE SKIN I LIVE IN to Catch a Peak at a Short Trailer

Pedro Almodovar has made a long and successful career at constructing unique films that always include a dark or sinister element to them.  Talk to Her, Bad Education, Volver, and many others all have an almost Hitchcockian precision to the pacing and how the story unfolds.  Not only that, but the Spanish director clearly has a talent in composing some gorgeous imagery that usually incorporates lush colors and provocative takes on gender and sexuality.  His most recent film, The Skin I live In, will premiere this week at the Cannes Film Festival.  Keep reading to watch a quick peak at the new film.

The Skin I live In is based off the novel Mygale by Thierry Jonquet.   Though no official date has been set for its release, it looks like the film will premier state-side this November.

After twelve years, he manages to cultivate a skin that is a real shield against every assault. In addition to years of study and experimentation, Robert needed a further three things: no scruples, an accomplice and a human guinea pig. Scruples were never a problem. Marilia, the woman who looked after him from the day he was born, is his most faithful accomplice. And as for the human guinea pig…

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
