New ‘ROOM 237’ Poster Puts A Small Prop From ‘THE SHINING’ Front and Center

Several theories have surfaced over the years attempting to dissect some of the strange decisions Stanley Kubrick made during the filming of The Shining.  An upcoming documentary entitled Room 237 takes a look at some of these theories.  Andy and I saw the film at Fantastic Fest last September, and while I wasn’t the biggest fan of the structure and presentation of some of these crazy and not so crazy theories, there’s no mistaken that this is a film that will raise some interesting questions for those who are a fan of the 1980 film.  One of the strongest and most intriguing questions raised in the film is why does their seem to be an emphasis placed on the “Calumet Baking Powder” cans Kubrick very particularly focuses on in the Overlook Hotel’s storage room? This answer is placed in a well thoughout and eloquent speech that kick starts the film.  Find out what the mystery of the bizarre cans might be when Room 237 hits theaters and VOD on March 29th.

To see how the poster fits into the movie The Shining, I’ve included a screenshot from the film below.  You will have to see Room 237 to hear the theory regarding the simple can.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
