Got plans April 9th? How about the live-streaming premiere of SEA FEVER
The good folks at DUST and Gunpowder & Sky are about to unleash this claustrophobic, paranoid horror movie about a viral outbreak…at maybe the most appropriate time. Like, this feels meant to be. Want to watch it in a week as a virtual group, safe and socially distanced?
Looks cool, yeah?
In a first-ever for a feature film, SEA FEVER will be having a live-streaming, premiere event on April 9th at 7:00pm Central, followed by a live Q&A with stars Hermione Corfield, Connie Nielsen, and writer/director Neasa Hardiman! Viewers can share comments during the feature, and then ask questions for the stars and director immediately following the screening. Pretty damn cool.
So here’s an idea: as we’re pretty much on hold as a country right now, and we’re part of a horror community, how about we plan this as a DTB family gathering?
Tickets are a measly $4.99, which can be purchased here, and you can also gather some further details of the premiere ahead of the VOD release on April 10th. So whether you want to be a part of a historic first for film distribution, or you just want to check it out at some point in the future, your chance is right around the corner.
The full press release:
NEW YORK – April 1, 2020 — Gunpowder & Sky, a fast growing independent global entertainment company, through its sci-fi label DUST, will bring audiences the ultimate at-home experience to be the first to participate in the live stream premiere of SEA FEVER, followed by a Q&A with the film’s stars Hermione Corfield (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation), Connie Nielsen (Wonder Woman 1984, Gladiator) and BAFTA award-winning director Neasa Hardiman (Happy Valley, Jessica Jones),
The live stream event will take place on https://seafever.watchdust.com on Thursday, April 9 at 5:00pm PT / 8pm ET. For a small pay-per-view fee, fans can tune in to watch the official film premiere together, post their comments in a chatroom, and have their questions answered by the cast and crew via a moderated Q&A following the credits. The event will kick-off SEA FEVER’s On Demand and Digital release on April 10th.
This virtual communal experience is the first-of-its-kind – giving audiences the chance to interact with each other and the film’s stars in the comfort of their own homes. SEA FEVER initially had a nationwide theatrical plan in partnership with Alamo Drafthouse and Fantastic Fest. However, with the recent closure of theaters throughout the country due to the growing Coronavirus pandemic, Gunpowder & Sky pivoted from its original theatrical plans, and is bringing the communal theatrical viewing experience to audiences at home.
“Like everyone else, we are adjusting to life’s new challenges on a daily basis and feel Sea Fever is more relevant than ever,” said Janet Brown, EVP of Acquisitions and Global Distribution for Gunpowder & Sky. “We are psyched to host the first-ever live experience of a film screening, and can’t wait to share it with audiences!”
SEA FEVER made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival with critical acclaim.
In SEA FEVER, Siobhán’s a marine biology student (Hermione Corfield) who prefers spending her days alone in a lab. She has to endure a week on a ragged fishing trawler, where she’s miserably at odds with the close-knit crew. But out in the deep Atlantic, an unfathomable life form ensnares the boat. When members of the crew succumb to a strange infection, Siobhán must overcome her alienation and anxiety to win the crew’s trust, before everyone is lost.
SEA FEVER has drawn comparisons to claustrophobic classics such as Alien and The Thing with RogerEbert.com declaring it, “One of those out-of-nowhere stunners” and “a masterful genre film.” Collider hails the films as, “A nightmare you can’t take your eyes off of, and can’t stop thinking about after it wraps up.”
SEA FEVER will be the second release from DUST, following 2018’s sci-fi western PROSPECT, starring Sophie Thatcher (The Exorcist), Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Kingsman: The Golden Circle) and Jay Duplass (Transparent, Room 104). Gunpowder & Sky currently has horror-comedy VILLAINS, starring Bill Starsgard, Maika Monroe, Jeffrey Donovan and Kyra Sedgwick in theaters via its horror brand ALTER, as well as the Lil Peep documentary EVERYBODY’S EVERYTHING set to open mid-November this year.
