FRIGHT NIGHT earns its fangs. Film set for R rating
In what could possibly be the biggest surprise to come out of the remake train news tunnel, the 3D remake of the 80’s horror comedy Fright Night got blasted with an R rating by the MPAA. Though this still doesn’t excuse the fact that the trailer seems less than thrilling and that the first poster looks way too similar to the poster for No Country for Old Man (click HERE to see what I mean), the fact that this film is getting released with an R rating just gained this unnecessary remake major cool points. I think the collective internet community breathed a loud gasp at the news since most people unanimously felt the PG-13 rating was going to be the ultimate verdict. Which in the horror film community, that rating is seen as disappointing as a blind man going to a strip club. Granted, I am one of the few who have never complained about the dreaded PG-13 rating. Over the years there have been numerous films released under that banner that still hold up as some of the best horror films in recent memory (ex. The Sixth Sense, The Ring, The Last Exorcism). So what was it that the MPAA said that caused Fright Night its R rating: “bloody horror violence and language including some sexual references.” You can see if the film earns its rating when Fright Night 3D is released in theaters Aug. 19,2011.
