Friday the 13th, 2015 Will See A New ‘FRIDAY THE 13TH’ Film
While the details are slim, I still felt it necessary to inform you horror fiends that we will be getting a new Friday the 13th movie in less than 16 months. Paramount has taken back the rights from their joint venture with Warner Brothers so this new film, from what I know, is not going to have any relation to the 2009 Marcus Nispel directed reboot/remake/waste of time. Also of note, this will be the 13th theatrical release of the Friday the 13th franchise.
It has been rumored that Paramount wants to adopt the found footage aspect to keep the film under $10 million. Obviously, they are looking towards their Paranormal Activity franchise as a model for “low-budget filmmaking”. As recently discussed on the KillerPOV podcast, I think that Paramount should keep it low budget by hiring up and coming film directors who know how to utilize their budgets to the fullest capacity.
I don’t think a found footage angle will improve on this franchise nor make it an interesting device to bring this to the fans. With no disrespect to the fans, the franchise is supposed to be a good time with great kill sequences. Granted, I would like someone to take hold of the franchise and make Jason scary again but the chances of that happening are slim.
UPDATE: Per Bloody Disgusting, they have confirmed that Platinum Dunes will be producing the new 2015 entry.
Again, we will find out when this new entry comes out March 13, 2015.
