Elijah Wood’s Next Journey Includes Producing Horror Films

Long gone is the dust swept-up by little Frodo’s big, hairy feet.  It looks like he’s going towards a much darker path now.  Next up for actor Elijah Wood includes an entirely different role and journey; one that will keep the actor behind the camera rather than in front.  Deadline has confirmed that the actor will be teaming up with producer Josh C. Waller and writer Daniel Noah to form The Woodshed, an independent production company focusing on horror features.  Fright fans know that the actor isn’t afraid of heading into grisly territory as he played a killer in Sin City and stars in the upcoming remake of Maniac.  Wood has also made several appearances at the genre loving film festival Fantastic Fest over the years.  He tells Deadline,

 “I’ve been a fan of horror and genre cinema in general since I was a child and have become increasingly passionate about the idea of there being a space in which horror films that take their subject matter and characters seriously could be produced. What was born out of a conversation of our mutual love for the genre and what we felt was lacking in a broad sense, especially from the U.S. market, became The Woodshed.”

The first projects on the slate for The Woodshed include Curse The Darkness, a socio-political zombie film; Henley, an intimate portrait of a 9-year-old sociopath as he first discovers his taste for killing; Harrow, about a town that has been quarantined as it experiences a number of disturbing paranormal events; It Was Cruel, a film that uses the horror genre to confront the spiritual corruption that many Jews were forced to accept in order to survive World War II.

Finally, other future projects will include collaborations with filmmakers including Alex de la Iglesia (The Last Circus), Nimrod Antal (Predators), Panos Cosmatos (Beyond The Black Rainbow), and video helmer Ace Norton.

Being a huge fan of Panos Cosmatos’ directorial debut, I’m excited to hear this news.  One thing I think all horror fans can agree on though is that more horror features is always a good thing.  So with that, I congratulate Elijah Wood and everyone at The Woodshed and look forward to what horrors will be heading our way.
