Eli Roth and Russell Crowe Will Come Together Again for the Dracula film ‘HARKER’
After avoiding the director’s chair for years, Eli Roth seems so be having a change of heart as of recently. In fact, it looks like he’s making up for lost time. First the horror director is set to direct the Netflix series Hemlock Grove. Next he announced he will be doing a cannibal film shooting this fall entitled The Green Inferno. Now it seems he will be picking up the pieces left behind by Orphan director Jaume Collet-Serra on a re-imagining of the Dracula story. Harker is the next project that will throw Roth into the world first realized by Bram Stoker. Russell Crowe had signed on this past February to play the title character. Deadline is reporting that Roth will direct the film and that Crowe will now play the iconic Dracula instead of the original plan of having him play Harker. Quite an interesting change of pace for an actor who’s typically known to play the hero. The Warner Bros. pic follows Scotland Yard detective Jonathan Harker as he tries to track down the vampire Dracula. Lee Shipman & Brian McGreevy wrote the first draft of the script. Roth and Crowe previously worked together on the kung-fu flick set to come out later this year The Man With The Iron Fists. The hope is to get Harker underway next year. Even though I find it hard to imagine Crowe bearing the fangs of the famous vampire, I’m going to refrain from forming an opinion on the film as it seems the film is still being developed. Who knows what else can change at this point.
