35th Anniversary ‘HALLOWEEN’ Blu-Ray with New Commentary & Supervised by Cundey
Anyone who knows me personally knows that I’m a Halloween fanatic. I have every release of the film on DVD. I also have a Beta tape of the film (I’m not selling it, don’t ask) and that nice VHS box set with the blood globe as well as the black 2-VHS set. I have spent hundreds of dollars on Myers masks…ok, you get it. 2013 is the 35th anniversary of Halloween and those notorious double dippers at Anchor Bay are getting ready to have us bust out our wallets again. However, at least it doesn’t seem like a double dip of re-hashed bonus features.
Dread Central dropped some information in the past two days about how John Carpenter & Jamie Lee Curtis just recorded a new commentary for the upcoming disc and then today, they stated that they learned that Dean Cundey, the director of photography, will be supervising the transfer. That last bit of information is great news for Halloween fans. Why? There have been complaints since Anchor Bay introduced their Divimax master of the film on DVD – which is the same transfer that was used for the Blu-Ray. The “Divimax complaints” were that the image was too blue-tinted on the night scenes. Also, many people know that just because a director of photography comes on to approve the transfer, it might not be necessarily true to the original image/master – Twilight Time’s Night of the Living Dead is a good example. However, Cundey is one of the best DP’s out there so I doubt that he will do too much tweaking.
We are still waiting for an official date on the Blu-Ray but I think it is safe to assume it will be out by Halloween.
