‘MANIAC’ Remake Shot Entirely From Killer’s POV

During this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Elijah Wood was in attendance and had some comments about his role in the upcoming remake of the cult classic Maniac. The original film directed by William Lusting stared Joe Spinell as Frank Zito, a madman stalking the streets of New York after horrifying visions of his childhood start to take shape in his life.  The new Maniac will be directed by Franck Khalfoun (P2) and is produced by Alexandre Aja. The look of the film will be what sets it apart more than anything else from the original. Here is what Wood had to say about the updated version:

“[It’s] entirely in POV… You only ever see me in reflections and occasionally there are out-of-body experiences where you see more of me.” “I normally don’t love the notion of remakes… I’ve said that I’m averse to it, especially in horror films. But the approach was so different and so unique that I was really intrigued. It was fun.”

In this version, Wood plays an employee that works at a mannequin shop and finds victims online. He stalks and kills them while having hallucinations from his childhood of his mother abusing him. I like the fact they are using a different style to this film and it will remind me of the giallo films that I enjoyed so much as a child (except you will know who the killer is). I can’t wait to see some shots from the movie and you better believe that once we see them we will have them for you.  The film is set for release sometime in 2013.
