Stephen King’s The Stand from 1994 is Finally Hitting Blu-Ray
Back in May 1994, over 25 years ago, ABC aired the mini-series adaptation of The Stand directed by Mick Garris. It was a huge deal and a behemoth budget and undertaking. Imagine the hubbub around season 3 of Stranger Things right now and you may get an inkling. It was an event. While it pales in comparison to what Netflix reportedly pulled in for this recent season of Stranger Things, The Stand was viewed in 19 million homes when it was released. While it was previously said that The Stand would never hit Blu-Ray, we got the announcement last night that it is finally coming to Blu-Ray. It’s also being touted as being remastered as well, which if you own the DVD editions, you know that it needs it.
No word on special features as of right now but one can hope with that “Collector’s Edition” moniker that we may get something more than the 6+ hour mini-series. Also, given Mick Garris’s comments of it having a zero percent chance of it hitting Blu-Ray, we wonder how this was restored since Garris stated that it was shot on 16mm film and edited digitally on standard definition video (part of the reason it doesn’t look the best on previously released DVDs). You can check out the video below where he stated this:
Looks like we’ll have to wait a couple of months and find out with our own eyeballs.
