The Movie
Scavenger Killers from Dylan Bank and Kenneth Del Vecchio is a 102 minute exercise in being weird. When the back of the DVD says “Bonnie and Clyde reinvented as maniacal killers” you you’re not in for anything too serious. We’ve got the way too sexy defense attorney Clara Lovering and her lover, the over the top judge Taylor Limone, who kill people seemingly at random. They also have a penchant for having crazy violent sex wherever they may be. They’re being pursued by a couple of FBI agents, one played by Eric Roberts and the other by Dustin “Screech” Diamond. The latter has Tourette’s syndrome and gains telepathic powers when he puts his fingers in a large black lady’s mouth. Don’t worry, it’s never explained, it just kinda happens. There’s also a horny wheelchair bound agent who communicates through his assistant with super fake sign language that’s only really in the movie for cheap laughs.
There’s not a lot of plot to speak of, it’s just these two people who look like they belong in a porno going around killing people that they deem killable. On the surface it seems like a goofy kinda movie that you and some buddies could just sit down and get stoned and laugh at how ridiculous it is, up until the super rapey scene. There’s a scene where the two of them start torturing and murdering a girl rock band, and it’s just unpleasant. Up until that point everything’s just kind of been gleefully kooky, and everything after that is too, but this scene just sticks out like a thorn to harsh your mellow. There’s also a pretty bad scene near the end where they murder a “Jesus bus” cult that comes out of nowhere and seems to only serve the purpose of making the film longer.
Presentation
The film looks like it’s a direct to video horror movie. The film was shot on a consumer grade camera and it looks like it has the production values of a higher end porno, but without the porn. The sound quality is passable.
Special Features
There are only three special features and they’re all pretty negligible. There’s a behind the scenes that’s really more of a gag reel. There’s a behind the effects reel that may serve as interest to those who want to go into special effects, but others would find boring. Then there’s footage from the premiere at the Hoboken International Film Festival that all would find boring.
Overall
The SRP listed for this DVD is $24.98, but that’s a little steep for this. I can’t imagine anyone watching it more than once. The movie is wildly inconsistent, going from goofy and campy to just unpleasant and more often than not, misogynistic. I cannot really recommend this DVD to anyone.
