Late Nite Grindhouse Presents ‘Taxi Driver’

April’s show happens to fall on the Friday & Saturday before my birthday, April 8th. Therefore, I felt like booking one of my favorite films. Some may think that Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver is not a “grindhouse” film and technically it is not. However, there is some great footage in the film of 42nd Street in NYC back in the “grindhouse” heyday. Plus, it’s my birthday and we are showing an awesome film, are you really going to argue with this one?

Synopsis

A mentally unstable Vietnam war veteran works as a nighttime taxi driver in New York City where the perceived decadence and sleaze feeds his urge to violently lash out, attempting to save a teenage prostitute in the process.

We will be showing the newly restored version of Scorsese’s film culling from its 35th Anniversary last year. If you have never seen Taxi Driver on the big screen, now is your chance. If you have never been to a Late Nite Grindhouse show and live in St. Louis, there is no reason not to go. While we usually show the obscure films that littered the drive-in’s and grindhouses, sometimes we need to give love to a bigger film and since this is one of my favorite films, I figured why not.
