Injury Autumn/Winter 2011 Video Look Book. Or a three-minute horror movie trailer. You decide.
Founded by former architecture student and graffiti artist, designer Eugene Leung started his line Injury in Sydney, in 2004. The name Injury came to Leung when he drew a comparison of being “cut and sewn,” and therefore being in “a situation of injury,” to what happens when he manipulates fabrics for his fashion line. Leung says he gets his primary inspiration from horror movie soundtracks, as well as “all things dark, bizarre, gothic, or darkmarish.” His line is also well known for its video look-books, which play out like short unsettling horror movie trailers. Like the one for Injury’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection called “Pandemonium”, above.

So what about the clothes?
They are totaly rock and roll, either black or white, and unisex. When it comes to the patterns, they are masterful, full of movement – expertly cut and often reminiscent of sound wave patterns. Injury’s 2013 Women’s Spring/Summer line even seems to borrow from the playbook of artist Nick Lakiotes, and the cover art for Clutch’s 2013 record, Earth Rocker.
When it comes to music outside of the horror realm, Leung has said the band Placebo best represents Injury’s style. Specifically, the band’s look from the early 2000’s. He’d also love to have seen the 80’s version of the Jesus and Mary Chain wearing his designs. He loves Vangelis, especially the soundtrack to his favorite film, Blade Runner. In addition to that post-apocalyptic sci-fi classic, Leung also credits another vast expanse of 80’s science fiction, Dune, and the works of David Lynch for what he sends down the runway.

PRAYER Spring Summer 2010 – 2011
Leung’s runway shows play to his horror and dark-loving roots. Clips from murder flicks routinely play on the catwalk, accompanied by noisy, horror-inspired soundtracks. And when Leung is in the creative process with a new line, he looks to film, music and lyrics, as well as photography for his primary influences.

What’s Injury up to now? The Spring/Summer 2014 collection is called “Glitch.” There’s more color, and the patterns are deceptively vibrant and spacey. If you haven’t already, check out the video look book Injury put together for Glitch. It’s like watching a trailer for The Grudge, only with impeccably dressed, slightly frightening models. Take a peek!
