Couture Corsets, Iggy Pop’s Battle Jacket, And Makeup For Misfits
Cherry Bombed chimes in via her monthly Coffin Couture article with some badass dresses, denim vests & cosmetics!
Maya Hansen’s’ “Heavy Metal” couture corset dress.
Well, here we are girls and boys. It’s almost the end of January and if you’re still trying to shake off the stress of the Horrorday season, I’ve got the cure. Or at least some suggestions that will help kick start your 2015. First up are the couture creations of Madrid designer, Maya Hansen. Hansen has been making corsets and corset dresses since 2006. Hansen’s 2010 “Heavy Metal” themed collection was inspired from artwork used by bands like Kiss, Iron Maiden and the Misfits, so I thought I’d share some of her eye-popping designs. A few more images from Hansen’s headbanging walk down the runway follow.
Couture Western “Show” Jacket by Lisa Nelle. $795.
LA designer and Equine enthusiast, Lisa Nelle, makes high-end couture for the horse-riding elite. Her designs are pretty out there and remind me of everything that was going on in the early 90’s with the House of Versace – total excess and louder than love color. I can’t lie, I’m kind of loving the tattoo inspired graphics on Nelle’s Show Jacket (above). More of Nelle’s jackets and vests can be seen here, I suggest viewing them with your sunglasses on.
“Black Sabbath” crepe dress by Nasty Gal. $68.
One of my favorite clothing labels is LA’s own, Nasty Gal (Surprise!, said nobody). Named for the “patron saint of badass women”, Bette Davis (the ex of the late Miles Davis), Nasty Gal has been cranking out designs made for all of us bad girls since 2006 and has since built a massive worldwide following. NG loves to have fun when it comes to naming conventions for their creations – such is the case in with their “Black Sabbath” crepe dress pictured above. What’s not to love about a dress that is named for one of the greatest bands (and movie I might add) of all time? You got it, nothing.
Iggy Pop’s “Death Shall Triumph” denim vest.
Last year it was announced that Iggy Pop would be the latest collaborator with booze maker Sailor Jerry on a small clothing line. Only 50 of the “Death Shall Triumph” vests (pictured above) were made, and each one is signed by Iggy himself (or a five-year-old, it’s hard to tell). The only thing I don’t love about this denim vest is the price tag – $600! To help you come to terms with the fact that you won’t be able to pay your rent after picking this sweet vest up is that it also comes with Sailor Jerry tattoo flash patches to adorn your spendy, armless jacket that Iggy hand-picked himself. Sometimes it costs a lot to look like you just rolled out of the gutter. Take it from me.
The Misfits Looks That Kill made-to-order t-shirt. $26.
If you read this column regularly (and I hope you do), then you know I’m a t-shirt addict. The folks over at We Love Fine must know me pretty well because I didn’t even think twice about picking up this made-to-order mashup of Jem and the Holograms arch enemies, The Misfits and glam-metal heroes, Motley Crüe. The silk-screen is impeccable and the colors are as vivid they come. I will warn you that visiting We Love Fine is a sure fire way to lighten your wallet, but at least you’ll look good when you’re eating nothing but Ramen for the next month.
“Riff-Raff” eyeshadow by M*A*C. $44.
If you missed picking up the pretty things that makeup giant M*A*C released as part of their Rocky Horror Picture Show line, don’t despair! There are still a few pieces of the collection available on M*A*C’s official site as well as on EBay that are well worth the coin. The packaging alone will make any sweet transvestite SWOON.
Pretty Zombie Liquid Lipstick collection.
I must confess, I am a lipstick/gloss addict. I know, what a terrible problem to have, right? I’m always on the look out for something new to add to my ever-growing collection, and I never have to look far as it seems that almost every day someone else it taking what I put on my pucker to the next level. Which is exactly what Pretty Zombie Liquid Lipstick has done. Vegan and cruelty-free, Pretty Zombie has upped the undead ante with their matte lip pallet featuring colors designed to bring our your inner Frankenstein’s Bride. $12.
I don’t know about you but my 2015 just got a whole lot brighter, and all I had to do was embrace the fact that it’s all going to be okay. As long as I don’t run out of lipstick or t-shirts that is.
