The Dark Corner of the Toy Box: NECA Unveils Jason from ‘PART 3’ & ‘THE FINAL CHAPTER’

The Dark Corner of the Toy Box is a column at DTB that focuses on collectibles, action figures, statues, and memorabilia based around the types of movies, books, and video games we cover here on the site.

The debate continues on regarding who the best Jason is in the Friday The 13th series.  Everyone has their favorite version of the iconic character.  Whether it is burlap sack Jason from the second, the zombified Jason from the seventh, or the hulking mullet wearing Jason from the remake (I know it sounds sacrilegious, but I honestly know some who really prefer that Jason), many actors and many designs have been given to portray the vengeful Voorhees over the course of 12 films and one appearance on Arsenio Hall (who can forget).  Yet, there are some things that Friday fans universally agree on and that is what are the top films in the slasher series.  If you had to poll several fans I would bet that the majority of them if not all would put Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter in their top five films in the series.  For me it isn’t even a question: The Final Chapter is for me the best film in the franchise.  Regardless if the title is completely misleading – though the next film did attempt to present a different killer -the forth film is usually considered a fan favorite due to the likability of the unlucky teenagers/victims, the brutality and inventiveness of the kills, and my personal favorite reason, Crispin Glover’s amazing dance moves.  Tom Savini’s make-up work revealed in the finale is a grotesque and truly terrifying Jason that convinces the audience that Jason has truly evolved from the mongoloid child we first saw in the lake at the end of the initial film.  To honor the 1984 film and to continue in their amazing history of producing figures from iconic horror films, NECA has revealed plans and images for not only a Jason figure from The Final Chapter but Jason from Part 3 as well.  Check them out below.

As you can see from the images, even though they look very similar, one is quite a bit bloodier than the other.  To boost even more collectibility for fans,  each of the two will be packed with different weapons, one bearing the harpoon gun while the other coming with an axe.  Unfortunately the bloody Jason from the fourth film come does not come with the corkscrew from the film.  A fine attention to detail has been placed on the folds in the shirts and pants.  What fans will appreciate even more though is the sculpt of the head on both of them.  Each face sculpt is slightly different with the later of the two showing a little more teeth and menace.  Once again NECA has nailed an impressive likeness of Jason that truly captures the unmasking found at the end of each of their films.  Finally, NECA has also unveiled plans and official images of two replica masks from the films as well.  Once again seen in both regular and battle-damaged form.  These are phenomenal replicas that typically are priced at just around $30!

The figures and masks are scheduled to hit shelves this fall.  NECA also teases that this won’t be the last we hear from the iconic slasher.  Keep in touch for more news on this line and other collectibles that you will only be able to find in The Dark Corner of the Toy Box.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
