You can meet the director of MONSTER SQUAD and NIGHT OF THE CREEPS Tom. Night in California

A lot has been written about Monster Squad.  Which is all well and good, since the film certainly deserves all the attention it should get.  Yet, right now, I want to talk about Fred Dekker’s 1986 debut film, Night of the Creeps.  Besides having the always entertaining Tom Atkins, spouting some of the most memorable lines from his cult career, Night of the Creeps includes a talented cast, great effects, smart dialogue, and well-rounded characters that you actually believe in and care for.  Pre-dating James Gunn’s slimy worm-like creatures in Slither, Creeps tells the story of slithering alien creatures who turn their victims into zombies.  Infusing just the right amount of humor and scares in this excellent paced film, Creeps remains as one of my favorite films of the 1980’s.  Needless to say, I am jealous of those who will be able to meet the director tomorrow night (August 6).  Fred Dekker will be screening a double feature of Monster Squad and Night of the Creeps at Dark Delicacies in Burbank, CA starting at 8 pm.  He will then be signing copies of the DVD’s during the event.  For more info on the event head to Dark Delicacies website by clicking HERE.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
