Newly Reopened St. Louis Area Theatre to Screen Genre Classics
St. Louis friends, rejoice as there is a new venue in the area screening classic films! The recently reopened/remodeled Wildey Theatre in Edwardsville, Illinois opened a few weeks ago and has been screening such films as Casablanca and Gone With the Wind. The screenings have been very well attended, with nearly every show selling out. Hopefully this trend will continue as the month of May will see screenings of two genre classics, Jaws and The Exorcist.
Friday, May 20th, will see an 11:30 p.m. presentation of The Exorcist. Still not excited? The next weekend will feature 4 screenings of the Spielberg directed classic, Jaws. The show times for that film will be 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm on both May 27th and May 28th. The theater itself was built in 1909 but was remodeled in the 1930s in an art deco style. The venue screened films until closing in 1984. Since then, the theater has largely sat empty with most Metro East residents wondering if it would ever reopen. The Wildey is now back in business, hosting concerts, lectures, and classic films. For all you fiends old enough to partake (legally) in alcohol consumption, the theater also features a beer and wine bar. For more information and for ticket information head on over to the Wildey website.
I have been waiting for the day that the Wildey would open since I was a little kid. Jaws and The Exorcist are two of my favorite films and I can’t think of a better way to start Summer! I will be there on the Friday screenings of both films. Come on out, have a beer, and enjoy two awesome classics.
