John Carpenter wants Amy Adams for a “Gothic Western”

Typically, speculation on a film prior to an official announcement is not something that excites me too much.  Then again, John Carpenter is not just any director.  Even though he hasn’t done much for me as of late, I’m still holding my breath for the man to surprise me once again.  In a recent Q&A at the Fright Night Film Festival, the director spoke of a “little gothic western” that he is working on.  He did clarify that it is not a horror- western.  “Amy Adams…she’s an unbelievable actress, what a talent.” He goes on to say, “I’d love to work with her.”  The exciting bit of info about this story is the fact that Carpenter is working on a non-horror film.  Given the high expectations people have of him now in the world of horror, this departure seems only logical.  Though on can argue that Vampires is certainly influenced by westerns.  It is also common knowledge that Assault on Precinct 13 is a modern retelling  of Rio Bravo.  Aside from that, the man has not officially stepped into the boots of the western genre.  Here’s hoping he still has at least one more genre classic left in him.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.

This blog is definitely rather handy since I’m at the moment creating an internet floral website – although I am only starting out therefore it’s really fairly small, nothing like this site. Can link to a few of the posts here as they are quite. Thanks much. Zoey Olsen
