THE THING Prequel’s Director and Producer Disclose Some Info

I love the original The Thing!  It  is one of my favorite horror films because of its awe-inspiring creature effects (which still looks awesome even 28 yrs. later) and its use of paranoia among the characters.  John Carpenter has directed many great films in his day, but The Thing still seems to never age as the years go by.  This is a true testament to it being a horror classic.  Though I appreciate that the studio is not doing just a remake of the original film, I am still a little nervous about this unnecessary prequel.  What adds to this concern is that it comes from a new director as well, Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.  I do have to admit though, after watching this new video interview recorded at the New York Comic-Con, I have gained a little hope in the film. To judge for yourself, you can view the video beyond the break.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
