Farmer Schwarzenegger + Zombie Abigail Breslin = MAGGIE
Schwarzenegger is going to be in a horror genre film. Let that sink in for a moment. Sure, one can argue that The Terminator is essentially a sci-fi slasher. Also, don’t forget he directed a Tales from the Crypt episode as well. Before you cry out Predator as a horror film just simply know, I really don’t think of it as horror.
According to today’s post by Variety, his latest completed film, Maggie, has been added to the Toronto International Film Festival. If you haven’t heard about Maggie yet, good. That’s why we’re here. It has been mentioned online in the past but no one really knew if it was going to be a straight horror film, a drama, a comedy…no one knew. Well, more information has come out and it looks to be more of a zombie drama focusing on the conflict that a farmer, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, has with his daughter who seems to be changing into a zombie. Honestly, this could be an amazing role for the man. He has played an action star so many times that it kind of comes as a surprise that over 50 films later he comes into a genre that is ready to embrace him. Judging from the pictures below, it looks pretty somber and straight-laced.
Of note, the screenplay was on the 2011 Blacklist.
The brief synopsis listed is as follows:
A Midwestern farmer stays by the side of his beloved teenage daughter even as she slowly turns into a cannibalistic zombie, in this daring, genre-bending debut feature.
Here’s to hoping it plays at Fantastic Fest because this film is definitely in my top films to watch now.
