Arnold Schwarzenegger in Talks to Play Major Role in ‘Toxic Avenger’ Remake

I f**ing love the internet. Everyday I’m fascinated on what may be sitting in my inbox or my daily news feed in regards to our world which thanks to the internet is awake 24/7. So of course I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up in the wee hours of the morning to take out the dog and decided to glance at my phone. I saw something about Arnold Schwarzenegger in talks to star in the remake of The Toxic Avenger. I immediately rubbed the newly formed sleep out of my eyes and gave a double glance. “Who is relaying this nonsense”, is the first thing to came to mind. Why in the hell would the former action mega star slash Governor of California want anything to do with the beloved tale from Lloyd Kaufman and crew? After searching a little more I found a clearer answer but not a definitive one.

Now it has been confirmed that Arnie will NOT play the infamous nerd turned superhero Toxie but there is speculation that he may have a supporting role. One of the roles that has been mentioned is that of “The Executioner”which is a an ex black op who will be training Toxie on his combat skills.  Personally, I would be rooting for Arnie to play a bad guy which I don’t know if he has since his horrible portrayal of Mr Freeze.  There is also word that he may play the father of the hero’s love interest, or the chief of security for the evil plant where the toxic ooze is produced.

The project will be overseen by producers LLoyd Kaufman and Michael Herz (the original creators of the The Toxic Avenger) and Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink is set to direct. With the popularity of Toxie that spawned sequels, cartoons, comics, and the like, the iconic figure is perfect to see a return to the big-screen. Arnold didn’t do too well in his last return to screen (outside of the Expendables movies) so I think movie fans will enjoy seeing the Terminator/ Governor in this type of film.  Be on the lookout for more casting news on The Toxic Avenger remake as they develop.
