Show Your Bloody Patriotism to this Country by Watching the ‘AMERICAN MARY’ Trailer

After making an underground killing with their first feature film Dead Hooker in a Trunk, the Soska twins (Jen & Sylvia) are going back to school for their follow-up feature.  At this school though the books and lecture halls have been replaced with scalpels and operating tables. American Mary follows a medical student who breaks away from the surgical world with which she is studying to embark on her own journey of medical experimentation.  The beautiful Katharine Isabelle plays the title character who has penchant for corsets and slinky dresses instead of medical scrubs.  I’m sure many of you readers won’t mind that.  Isabelle first popped up on many horror fans’ radars in one of my favorite werewolf films of all time: Ginger Snaps. For those who haven’t checked it out, I implore you to seek out this touching and bloody coming of age story that infuses lycanthrope mythology with the story of a girl’s transformation into womanhood.  American Mary made its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this past May and is scheduled for release later this year.  Enjoy the trailer below. I for one have enjoyed it several times already.  BTW- The Soska sisters make a Hitchcockian cameo at the end of the trailer.  Be warned, if you happen to be at work, this trailer is quite NSFW due to some graphic gore and violence.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
