WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN Clips reveal a troubled child

We Need to Talk About Kevin recently thrilled audiences at its debut screening at the Cannes film festival.  This is the third film from director Lynne Ramsay who also gave us Morvern Collar, a thoughtful look at a girl who copes in the wrong ways with her boyfriend’s suicide.  We Need to Talk About Kevin is Ramsay’s most recent journey into dark territory which stars Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly.  These two superb actors star as the parents of a boy who grows into a sociopath teenager.  Beyond the break you can watch three dark and serious looks into what looks like a complex film.

The clips are courtesy of NBC Connecticut.  According to IMDB, the film is set for release Sept. 2nd of this year.

Here’s the official synopsis from Cannes’ website:

Eva puts her ambitions and career aside to give birth to Kevin. The relationship between mother and son is difficult from the very first years. When Kevin is 15 , he does something irrational and unforgivable in the eyes of the entire community. Eva grapples with her own feelings of grief and responsibility. Did she ever love her son? And how much of what Kevin did was her fault?

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
