A new Fan Campaign has begun to Release Joss Whedon’s CABIN IN THE WOODS

The film has already been completed but is sitting on the studio shelf.  Far too often this becomes the fate of so many films.  Granted, some of these films deserve to be seated in this treacherous place.  Yet, when is a Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) written film ever deserve to sit in this place of movie hell!  Cabin in the Woods is the most recent example of what could possibly be an amazing use of talent collecting dust on the shelf.  Co-written and directed by Buffy alum Drew Goddard and starring the great Richard Jenkins and Chris Hemsworth, Cabin in the Woods is being held hostage by MGM.  Now, a fan-page has surfaced that will hopefully draw enough fans to wake up studio executives at MGM to release Whedon’s return to horror.

Enter The Cabin is the new site that has been started as a petition for fans interested in seeing the film.  The site links you to their Facebook page where they are asking for people to “Like” the page.  Hopefully, this will encourage someone or some studio to purchase the film for a theatrical or DVD release.  Unfortunately, the future is uncertain.

In a recent interview with IGN, Thor star Chris Hemsworth did give fans some hope for a future release.  When asked if he heard about Cabin in the Woods or the Red Dawn remake eventually coming out, Chris had this to say:

Yeah, we’re hearing that’s possibly later in the year, but those films have been tied up at MGM as you say for awhile now. I’m hearing great things about both of them. I’ll look a few years older by the time they come out.

Obviously, Chris may not be the most reliable source in the world, but he may know something we don’t.

Joss Whedon gave us so many great moments with his unique blend of horror and comedy with Buffy The Vampire Slayer.  He blended the western and sci-fi genres seamlessly with the cult series Firefly.  And he intrigued us with the criminally under-seen DollhouseCabin in the Woods is a film that needs to be seen for fans of both the talented writer and fans of horror cinema.  Insidious and I Saw the Devil are two of the most enjoyable films I have seen this year and they weren’t remakes or sequels.  They were original films.  I hope Cabin in the Woods, AN ORIGINAL FILM, will be rewarded by a proper release.  If you agree, check out Enterthecabin.com

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
