Amber Heard may be our new Red Sonja

While Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan’s take on the 1985 film Red Sonja may never see the light of day, there may be some new details circling around a new take on the “She-Devil with a Sword.”  The bad-ass warrior woman first graced the pages of the Conan the Barbarian comic in the late 70’s.  Since then, the character got her own series and a pretty lack-luster film starring Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger. In a new interview with Drive Angry’s Amber Heard, Moviefone got some exclusive news regarding Heard’s involvement in the project.

Amber Heard was asked: I assume you’ve heard the rumor by now, so, ‘Red Sonja’? Is that something you’re interested in? Were you surprised to hear about it?  And what was Amber’s response?

I was sort of surprised to hear about it, yeah. I think (producer) Avi (Lerner) even said himself, “She doesn’t know it yet.” So I was surprised, but also it’s something I’ve been looking at for a while and kind of interested in. I’m definitely interested in being a part of it, but that’s all I can kind of comment on right now.

So do the producer’s and studio already have her lined-up for the role? I guess time will tell.  Though I enjoyed the idea of Rose McGowan in the title role in the previous developing project, Drive Angry assured me that Amber Heard can handle the physicality of what would be a very demanding role.  Heard is completely believable playing a bad-ass with heart in Drive Angry, which excites me to hear more news about this upcoming project.
